Soil Instrumentation

ENGINEERING SERVICES

Soil instrumentation is needed in order to know the behaviour of subsoil due to vertical as well as lateral pressure induced by surface loadings. We have done installation and monitoring work for piezometers and settlement plates in highway projects and other infrastructures which required embankment construction for pre–loading. The piezometer measures the water pressure in the ground which comprised the static hydraulic pressure and the excess water pressure due to surface loading.

The dissipation of the excess water pressure indicates the subsoil is in the process of consolidation. The subsiding ground due to consolidation is recorded with settlement plates on its surface.

Lateral ground movement could be due to the squeezing of the consolidating soft soil or by the installation of many deep precast piles. This movement is measured with inclinometer. Nowadays, where high rise buildings with deep basements are in trend, the instrumentation monitoring works ensure the safety during construction.

In addition to all of that, we also involved in the site specific seismic analysis, usually inhigh rise project. Seismic ground motion prediction equations were employed to develop design ground motions using a Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis (PSHA) approach.
